Modern living is inundated with noise, busyness and a digital cycle fueled by outrage and fear. We are overstimulated, exhausted, and bone-dry in our souls.
Drawing on the wisdom of the contemplative tradition and spiritual practices that date back to the earliest centuries of the church, Into the Quiet invites readers to step out of the chronic noise and constant motion of the modern world into the still, silent presence of the God of peace.
What The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry was to the speed of the modern world, this book is to the noise of it.

I’m a writer, pastor, and founder of Practicing the Way.
For nearly two decades, I was the founding pastor at Bridgetown Church in Portland, Oregon. We spent many years working out apprenticeship to Jesus in the post-Christian West, and organized our community around a simple idea: practicing the Way of Jesus together.
I stepped away from Bridgetown Church in 2021 to start Practicing the Way, where we help churches make lifelong apprentices of Jesus. I’m also the New York Times bestselling author of eight books, including Into the quiet, Practicing the Way and The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.
I live in the Santa Monica Mountains outside Los Angeles with my family, where we are currently church planting, and I am working on new resources for spiritual formation in the modern world.
